The purpose of fixation is to preserve the original morphology and structure of cells and tissues. Fixatives can prevent the autolysis of endogenous lysosomal enzymes on their own tissues and cells, and inhibit the growth of bacteria and molds. Fixatives inactivate endogenous lysosomal enzymes by altering the internal structure of proteins through coagulation, generation of additive compounds, and so on.

Calcium formalin fixative (10%) is suitable for fixation of most tissues, protects antigen and enzyme activity, and is especially good for fixation and preservation of adipose tissue.
