INT is light yellow to yellow powder and serves as electron acceptor. Its solubility is 0.5g in 100ml water at 25℃. It is soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether. Melting point: 227~229℃ (dec). The oxidized form is a colorless crystalline powder. The reduced form is a reddish-purple needle-like crystal. Soluble in most organic solvents. Slightly soluble in water. It is toxic and irritating.
Usage: Colorimetric detection of electron acceptors for various dehydrogenases; histochemical studies; used as a bacterial stain. Quantitative analysis of corticosteroids and redox enzymes (e.g., lactate and succinate dehydrogenases).
