Product Introduction:
Gram stain is a routine stain widely used in bacteriology.
The principle of the staining is that through crystal violet primary staining and iodine liquid staining, insoluble crystal violet and iodine complex is formed in the cell wall, which can be retained on the cell membrane by the thicker cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria, making Gram-positive bacteria purple. Gram-negative bacteria have a thin cell wall, a high lipid content, a thin peptidoglycan layer, and poor cross-linking. After decolorization, the lipid outer membrane rapidly disintegrated, the gap enlarged, and the crystal violet and iodine complex dissolved. Therefore, they could be decolorized by ethanol and then stained red after safranin.
