Details
Propidium Iodide (PI) is a nuclear staining reagent that can stain DNA. It is an analogue of ethidium bromide that emits red fluorescence upon embedding in double-stranded DNA. PI can't penetrate the intact cell membrane, but could penetrate the damaged cell membrane of late apoptotic cells and dead cells, and stain the cell nucleus red. PI is often used with fluorescent probes such as Calcein-AM or FDA to stain both live and dead cells. The excitation and emission wavelengths of the PI-DNA complex are 535 nm and 615 nm, respectively. It is often used for flow cytometry analysis and microscopic observation to detect apoptosis or necrosis.
This product is PI in aqueous solution at a concentration of 1mg/ml. According to different experiments, the product should be directly diluted to the working concentration with the corresponding solution.
