background: Get4 is a 327 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. Get4 forms a multiprotein complex, known as the BAT3 complex, with UBL4A, BAT3 and ARSA. The BAT3 complex plays a role in transporting tail-anchored membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The gene encoding Get4 maps to human chromosome 7p22.3. Human chromosome 7 houses over 1,000 genes, comprises nearly 5% of the human genome and has been linked to Osteogenesis imperfecta, Pendred syndrome, Lissencephaly, Citrullinemia and Shwachman-Diamond syndrome. Function: Component of the BAT3 complex, a multiprotein complexinvolved in the post-translational delivery of tail-anchored (TA)membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. TAmembrane proteins, also named type II transmembrane proteins, contain a single C-terminal transmembrane region. The complex actsby facilitating TA proteins capture by ASNA1/TRC40: it is recruitedto ribosomes synthesizing membrane proteins, interacts with thetransmembrane region of newly released TA proteins, and transfersthem to ASNA1/TRC40 for targeting. Subunit: Component of the BAT3 complex, at least composed ofBAG6/BAT3, UBL4A and GET3/TRC35. Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm, cytosol. Similarity: Belongs to the GET4 family.
